The Anti-Pragmatic Manifesto
- I will make things myself sometimes even if it ends up being more expensive and odd.
- I will not do the dishes until there is a full load.
- When inspiration strikes, I will write down the idea, regardless of where I am and how stupid and/or rude it makes me look.
- I will have breakfast for dinner sometimes.
- I will let the house go to hell while I read a great novel.
- I will have parties even if I can't afford it.
- I will be poor so I can squander time.
- I will buy balloons, flowers, or ice cream for no reason, with whatever change I have in my pocket.
- I will procrastinate, especially if it means that lightning has time to strike and make the end result more brilliant.
- I will bring home huge boxes from work so I can make forts with my children.
- I will drop everything when I'm sick (bugger everything else).
- I will do impractical things that make me happy, like keeping chickens and a garden in the city.
- I will always be late if it means not yelling at anyone.
- I will find any reason to dress up, just because I like to.
- I will continue using and teaching real-world skills, like making bread or sewing, even though they are outdated and unnecessary at the moment.
- I will not stop creating, even if no one ever buys my creations (in my case, writing).
- I will continue to make puns, even if it makes others groan.
- I will sing, because singing should be part of life, even if it's terrible (especially if it's terrible).
- And lastly, I will always, always, choose being silly over being cool, because silliness is much cooler in the long run, anyway.
That's all I can think of at the moment. Any suggestions?

I will walk away from people wanting to argue for the sake of arguing.
- I will dance in public.
- I will buy wondrous items that aren't necessary for survival, books, art, strange teapots, even if it means I'll be eating rice and beans for the next week.
- I will linger.
- I will take the circuitous route home.
- I will laugh at inappropriate times.
- I will concoct impossible schemes and try to make them happen.
- I will wander.
- I will mix different food ingredients just to see what they taste like together.
- I will call no pleasure guilty.
Love this list and really, really love it when I find a new post on your blog.
However, I have to say your list reminded me of a quote by Bert Lahr's son, "Frivolity is the people's refusal to suffer." It was in a documentary on vaudeville and I've been in love with it ever since.
Thank you so much for this. I love it!
I will take the time to look others in the eye and really listen to them, and in this way grow closer to God.
I just wanted to say that this is beautiful. I wish we really would follow these resolutions, even though sometimes we inevitably end up doing the pragmatic.
Excellent.
The last one is the best -- the problem with being "cool" is that you can't get too enthusiastic about anything... and where's the fun in that?
I will sing in the streets just because I feel like to, even if people will think me drunk or weird or both for it. (similar to yours)
I will wear a fancy hat/dress/whatever, just because they are pretty and/or fun and life is too short to just wait for the perfect occasion to wear them to come along.(similar to yours again)
I will laugh my head off as often as I can even if my laughter shakes the walls - it was meant to sound that way.
I will take time to lay back and just watch the clouds go by.
Cool list, I must say and one I can completely adopt as my credo...
Not much to add, except thanks for adding a bit more joy to my day through this post!
I will adhere to a code of conduct and a manner of speaking that went out of fashion in a previous century.
I will be rich in dreams and stories, even if I never find time to tell them.
I will live for art.
So many things that are true...
I will happily spend hours browsing bookshops or shops full of knick knacks which no one needs.
I will let the autumn leaves gather in the garden.
I just thought I would let you know that the "Tubas of Doom" are acoustic radar sets used to hear aircraft at a distance during world war 2. Lovely blog.
I love this!
I will be free with my laughter, no matter where I am or who I am with.
