The library usually displays two of the current four volumes at a time, one showing a major illustration and the other showing typical text pages. In fact, it has been on display to the public in the Old Library at Trinity since the 19th century. Both the Wikipedia for the film and for the original book mention this.Annoying Correctornoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4843157625045099797.post-19790310908283631802012-01-13T11:35:42.199-08:002012-01-13T11:35:42.199-08:00Actually, the Book of Kells is on permanent exhibi...Actually, the Book of Kells is on permanent exhibit at Trinity College Dublin.mcfhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01391761449977245646noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4843157625045099797.post-86302770868444158182012-01-13T11:22:12.248-08:002012-01-13T11:22:12.248-08:00Great post! It's a wonderful artwork, and much smaller than you'd think.

I assumed the "oak berries" were oak galls, which were used in inkmaking as a tannin source. I've never heard them called berries, but they're often called oak apples. The only green medieval inks I know of used verdigris, and not any plant material at all.
